Why the order matters
Booking hammam and massage the same day? The hammam comes first — warm, freshly scrubbed skin responds to far less pressure.
The jacuzzi comes first for the same reason: after half an hour in warm water the muscle is already soft.
Who should not use it
What a Turkish hammam actually involves
You start on the heated marble slab — the göbek taşı — and simply lie there until the heat has worked through you. This takes about fifteen minutes and is the part most first-timers try to rush. Don't.
Then comes the kese: a coarse mitt worked over the whole body, which lifts away dead skin. It is brisk rather than painful, and the difference in how your skin feels afterwards is the reason people come back.
The foam finishes it. Olive-oil soap is worked through a cloth bag until it produces clouds of foam, and you are washed down in it. Then warm water, a cool rinse, and tea.
Practical notes
- Allow roughly 75 minutes for hammam alone, or about three hours if you are combining it with a long massage.
- Peştamal, towel and slippers are provided — you need to bring nothing.
- On normal skin a kese scrub every two to three weeks is plenty; more often than that irritates rather than helps.
- The jacuzzi is emptied and cleaned after every guest and refilled for the next.
- Do not book a kese scrub within 48 hours of waxing or laser treatment.
